WHY

To be part of the solution of transitioning the energy economy to full reliance on renewables.


AIMS

To reduce electricity costs and increase the value of solar feed-in by establishing a large community battery. To encourage the uptake of solar energy.


HOW ARE WE FUNDED

As a volunteer community energy organisation, we are reliant on grant funding, donations, philanthropic assistance, pro bono services, and government support.


DEDUCTIBLE GIFT RECIPIENT STATUS

 In February 2025 our organisation gained Deductible Gift Recipient status from the Australian Tax Office (ATO).

Under ATO rules we will manage our Gift Fund in accordance with the following policy: 
Any allocation of funds or property to other persons or organisations will be made in accordance with the established purposes of the organisation and not be influenced by the preference of the donor. The organisation will not pass a donation of money or property to other organisations, bodies or persons as a condition of a donation.


HOW IT WORKS

To act as an aggregator of rooftop solar generation and engage in residential energy sharing in our local community.


OUR ORGANISATION

We are an ASIC registered Not-For-Profit Company Limited by Guarantee -ACN 674 308 180. Our company is also registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
 
 
WHERE

Based in postcode 2251 in NSW. Technically, the area will be determined by the coverage of Ausgrid's local substation at Avoca. This is broadly analogous to the postcode area with some small deviations around the periphery.


WHICH BATTERY

Based on our current understanding we favour Flow Battery technology. In a perfect world it would be great to source this from an Australian company. Flow batteries use a liquid electrolyte and have a lower fire risk when constantly charging and discharging. They also have a lower resource footprint at manufacture.
As we get further along on our journey we will of course undertake a thorough technical assessment of the options available. 

 
THE FUTURE

If successful our energy model could be expanded or duplicated to benefit other communities.
